WHAT’S HAPPINING AT THE FIELD

The rains have come after a long dry spell and the runway is now green and being cut twice a week, on Mondays and Thursday. Remember, the mower has the right of way. There will be no flying when the grass is being cut.

The June picnic was again a great time. There were approximately 70 members and guest attending. Unfortunately there was a small accident. A high speed aircraft began its power dive and the pilot lost control, and no one seems to know what caused this to happen. The pilot is very skilled with good equipment. Down it came right into the roof of a member’s SUV leaving a small dent in the roof. The plane, you guessed it, was in trash bag size pieces. The moral of the story is anything can and most likely will happen, so stay alert when people are flying no matter how skilled they are. That was the picnic!

We did have another incident involving a 2.4 radio. The member landed his trainer type plane and taxied to the entrance of the pit area reaching the stop line, he turned off the radio before the plane’s receiver was turned off and the plane went to full throttle and into the pit area. Fortunately there was no personal injury and only slight damage to the plane. This could have been a serious accident. Again, be aware of what is going on around you.

The weather in the early morning is great with very low wind but it warms up rapidly after 9:30AM. Turn out is low on Mondays through Fridays and picks up some what on Saturdays. There is ample flying room with little to no wait for a flight station.
Please remember to stay hydrated during these hot summer months. One of our members became quite ill at the field from dehydration.

SEE YOU AT THE FIELD!
